Laying up new work for my portfolio is a lot of fun. It's creative and it gives you an opportunity to really slow down, see what you've shot. Think about how you can make it better, why it works, what's the best way to tell your story and get your point across in a manner that is fun and useful for the viewer. Fun meaning simply work that you hope is enjoyable to whomever is viewing it and useful meaning it is something a photo editor sees as a style or a viewpoint they can see in their book and to an Art Buyer or Art Director work that they feel comfortable pitching their client. It's a fine line and a challenge. But dating back to my days publishing a 'zine in high school, I love pagination and design. So it's fun for me to spend the time and make the book really sing. Feel free to contact me if your having questions about your own book. My rep is amazing and has taught me so much about preparing presentations.

hello there. i'm ross patrick's niece, madeline. right now i'm applying to calarts for the photography program and he told me to check out your work/ your blog. i'm glad i did and saw this comment. portfolio preparation is hell - i have a 20 photo limit. will you take a look at what i have and tell me if it cuts?
cheers
Madeline
Yes I will look at your work. Do you have it in email form or do you want to show me an actual book.
20 pics is good, but don't limit yourself to it. If it takes 40 to say what you do than do 40. Or 30 or 10. See what I am saying. Don't do 20 just because PDN told you. You have to really look at your work and show what is a appropriate to get your story across. My book for instance is almost 80 pages.
Email me and we can set up a time to meet.
