Just shot the cast of It's Always Sunny in Philidelphia on FX.   They are a funny , funny bunch.  Mr. Devito a true icon.  And hey guess what, a nice guy.  Rest of the cast super talented.

Can't show any picks yet, except for this shot of my 1st (and surf homie) Paully.  The expression set the tone for the day.  I think I said,  "give me exasperatedly vacant."

Cadillac

Just wrapped a really fun job for Modernista and their client Cadillac.  Many thanks to Alejandra  from Modernista for fighting and thanks to Darren for knowing what the hell he wants and keeping us all in stitches.  A really great crew.  The work needs to be good and it went off without a hitch-  all looks good, but to be able to connect with those you're working with and enjoy their company and enjoy the process is not altogether that common.  Here I sit three great jobs back to back and each one was a lot of fun, great crews and the work came out swimmingly!

I really do feel quite lucky.  No Bullshit.

A friend of mine recently pointed out that my blog was maybe a touch too self indulgent. 

I disagree.

My blog  serves as news for my photography business and  an electronic journal for myself, my family, friends and most of all my clients and potential clients.  A place to come and see where I have been, what I am doing and where I am going.

I don't necessarily use it as an educational tool for others.  I do not actively pursue blogging about how I market, how I shoot and who else is shooting, etc. etc.  If  you find my blog educational by simply reading about my experiences and looking into some of my productions through video and photos, I couldn't be happier.  And  in no way shape or form want to discourage those of you looking for assistance from reaching out and asking me question's or making comments.  I love to help when asked.   

Discover Campaign

So the second shoot I just wrapped in the city that never sleeps was Discover Credit cards. Came up VERY last minute for me and so unexpected.  The Martin Agency gave me eight ads which doesn't happen as much as it used to.  Usually it's three or so ads in these depressed economic times.  There was a lot of trust bestowed upon me from them.  

The shoot really went off without a hitch and each of the 8 scenarios went better than expected.  I entered this job with the idea we would submit them for awards.  I am proud to say I still feel the same way.

Just wrapped a three week trip to New York where I shot two jobs and took in some editorial meetings.  Started with a great one for SONY where I shot multiple celebrities.  All great people, warm, funny, polite and gracious.  No drama whatsoever.  I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank a few people.  Abby Ross, Dana Commandatore, Rob Beckon,  Andy Nordfors, Alberto Escobedo, Zach Crawford, MJ Ribas, Adam Amengual, Alex Verron, William Gelner,  Chris Villafuerte, Jordan Seiler, Maddy Simpson, Ethan Tobman , Elena Lyakir, Stuart Redsun, Christine Gately-Evans, Christine Belich, Jacob Gentry, Kelli Stam, Katy Aquino, Dave Stephenson, Shanna Alexander, Jenn Kim and John Hopkins.

I love this picture because in some way's it perfectly illustrates the personality and role of some of those closely involved in the shoot ( some VIP's not visible).  I like to call what goes on behind the lens  "Quiet Mayhem."

Thanks again to all involved.  What a great shoot and I look forward to the next.  Apologies if I have forgotten anyone!

Subaru Content

Good Stuff.......

Ok so just some basic news.  Some really great stuff coming up for me.  Semi secret, semi not 100% in the can.  But I will be in NYC shooting later this month a goody (details later) and potentially following that up with another one out there as well.  Then back to LA to shoot some more.

Also getting excited about shooting some spot for a brand I will be shooting some print for.  Again, sorta a secret, full disclosure soon.  

It's a fickle, fickle beautiful thing photography.  Best to just work hard getting your work out there to your market, keep it fresh and just be someone easy going and mellow to work with and the jobs will come.

i phone addiction

I feel like I am telling you all something you already know, but the iphone camera and the apps you can get to make cool looking vintage photos is addicting, inspiring and a good way to take snap shots to inspire future photographs. Here is a collage I've put together of my pictures over the last few weeks.
Can't wait to go back out and shoot some pics with a higher res camera and get them in my book.

I have six photographs in the line up that you can purchase for a great price. Believe me when I tell you these are high end posters. Amazing paper with a great gloss finish. Death + Taxes Magazine

Today I photographed Joel McHale form E! Channel's Talk Soup for Ray Lego the PE for Death+Taxes Magazine. What a funny dude. Very nice guy. We had to rip it out in half an hour and wasn't given much freedom with location. Was just told to show up at 1pm to look around the E! offices and then shoot Joel at 2 pm before he had to tape the show. Kind of nerve racking when I showed up and realized the building was super corpo looking. Once inside I was able to find some places in the hallways and some scattered lobbies throughout that were interesting. Sorta made it this quirky, behind the scenes feel. The studio and more visually stimulating areas were off limits. But it was fun to stuff him below desks, and in large boxes with tons of computer cable. He was a great sport.

Sometimes you have to work with what your given. Photo Editor said the pics were "a little weird, but in a good way." To me a great compliment.

Thanks to my new team/entourage Lauren and Abigail. Hard workers and they don't smell.

Genuine Appreciation.

I just wanted to say, I genuinely appreciate all those of late who have been ringing me up for work. Thanks so much. I feel so blessed.

For those photographers who don't feel busy, trust in the fact that it comes in waves. I know. It will be next week that the phone will ring. Or maybe it won't be for a year, but once it starts - it's on! You'll relish in this period where you had time to work on your marketing, shoot some personal work or simply let your daughter paint on your face. Bare in mind it could be worse. And you know what, maybe it is. Maybe your on the verge of going out of business or having to assist again. Here's a tip. Stay positive. Things do happen for a reason and there is a course. We all go through rough spots. Stay strong and be constructive. Work hard and it will all improve and I bet you'll be the better for it.

Vision before Visibility is a new idea I heard today. I like the way it sounds. I think vision first and visibility will follow.

We're selling phones here.........

A job I shot in December for Boost Mobile is out. I thanked all involved in an earlier post. But thanks again to everyone, especially Russell from Boost and Keith and Dana from 180LA.

Aside from some rain, the shoot went very well and everyone is happy. I'm happy, client ( Boost) is happy and agency (180LA) is happy. Eschelon in Venice did the retouching and they did a great job. The printed piece looks nice and juicy and rich.

Gone but not forgotten

I've had these images for some time and not sure if I have ever shown them to anyone. The gentleman pictured is a relative who suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. It slowly and painfully robs you of your mental and physical capabilities. When you want to brush your teeth you pick up a razor. Things like that in the beginning. Your long term memory is all that you have only until that is gone as well. You feel alone and confused beyond belief. The late stages are horrific. Complete mental and physical shut down. Unable to do anything for yourself. The pictures you see here taken in the middle stages of the deterioration.

I realize these pictures are depressing. I only show them because the man featured was a wonderful human being and I was reminiscing and celibrating his brilliant life as an educator at the highest level (obviously before the disease) and as a solid man and friend. He helped me get through a lot of life's struggles as a teenager and young adult.

These pictures help me remember in these tough financial times that there are far greater things to value and appreciate in life than money and job security like health, family, happiness, friends, animals, nature, etc. etc.

Celebrate life! The rest will follow.

I'd like to get $1500 for it. I paid $3000 for all of it. It's in great condition, only been in the salt water a handful of times.

Men's Health

A fun feature I shot for Men's Health has hit newsstands. Such a successful shoot. Shot 7 shots in a day. The talent was great. At one point I felt as though I was directing a scene for a TV drama. I gave direction and they ran with it beyond my expectations.

Thanks to all those involved. Especially Joe, Mark, Brenda, Zach, Gayle, Eric, Arrianne, Rennee, and my team.
